In most cases, you can choose between different benefits within a company or receive them as supplements to your salary. It's usually worthwhile to choose additional benefits that you would otherwise pay for privately. The type of benefits offered varies greatly depending on the company. For example, banks may offer discounted loans or stock programs.

Here are some well-known and popular benefits:

  • Company car or company bicycle: The company car may also be allowed for private use, but you'll have to pay taxes for it since the company car is calculated as a "monetary benefit." It's good to know that unlike the company car, the company bicycle can be used 100 percent privately!
  • Job ticket, e-bikes, or mobility budget: If you commute or have a long commute, you can save money each month if your employer offers a mobility budget.
  • Employee discounts: If your company manufactures products, employees may receive discounts on company products.
  • Gifts: An employer can give its employees gifts up to three times a year worth up to 60 euros for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, or wedding anniversaries. However, it cannot be paid out.
  • Company canteen or meal allowances: Larger companies often have a canteen on-site offering discounted meals. Smaller companies may offer meal allowances to support employees. Having meals provided in the office is also a benefit: cereal bar, free drinks, and fruit are additional incentives.
  • Further education or childcare: An employer has the option to invest in the further education of its employees without having to pay taxes or social security contributions - provided there is a direct connection between the further education and the professional activity.
  • Health: Companies can offer gym memberships at discounted prices, as well as company health management with regular check-ups.

However, keep in mind that when compensating for low salaries with benefits, these are not taken into account in the pension statement. Evaluate based on your individual situation and preferences which benefits are meaningful for you.
