A job change can be worthwhile if there are no opportunities for development either in terms of salary or tasks, or if you are unhappy with the job or your work environment. Are you sure it's time for a change? We'll explain what you should consider now.

Reflect on your job goals and expectations

Consciously think about what is missing in your current job, in which direction you want to (further) develop, and what you are looking for in a new job.

It's worth determining your own value again: What are your strengths and weaknesses, in which areas are you unbeatable, and where can you still develop? Also, ask family and friends for their assessment.

Resigning from the old job properly

If you are considering a change but have not yet made a final decision on a new job, it's best to be discreet. Otherwise, dealing with colleagues and supervisors can become difficult.

Adhere to your notice period and be transparent with your new employer about your start date. Only inform your supervisor that you want to switch jobs once your new employment contract is signed. However, you should seek the conversation as soon as possible. Stay fair and constructive in the conversation!

The right handover: Ideally, close your ongoing projects yourself and hand over your tasks after consultation. Say goodbye politely and make sure to leave "on good terms" if possible. You always meet twice in life – and perhaps there will be another professional opportunity for you in the company later on.
