#BALM - We set standards in modern mobility and transport policy!

"Ensuring safe and sustainable mobility for the population and the logistics of goods - that is our task at the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility."

As a federal authority within the remit of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), we are responsible for a variety of tasks related to transport, logistics, and modern mobility. Our range of tasks includes the monitoring and enforcement of freight transport, traffic data analysis, and market observation of all modes of transport, as well as funding programs particularly for cycling and public transport, and crisis management.

#WeMoveThings – and this is not only happening at the headquarters in Cologne, but also in our 11 branch offices nationwide in internal and external service. More than 2,000 colleagues contribute their individual skills, knowledge, and creativity – whether virtually, on-site, or from home. Bring your knowledge and your personality into our teams – this is the foundation for our further development into a service provider for modern mobility.

We are fully committed to digitization: Not only are our control vehicles equipped with the latest specialized technology, but so are our workplaces: All employees have their own laptops to make the best possible use of mobile working and flexible working hours.

This is, of course, not possible without state-of-the-art information and communication technology, the heart of which is our data center in downtown Cologne, which connects 15 locations nationwide and several hundred interfaces to German and European authorities.

As you can see – there is something for everyone!

Who we are looking for:

In addition to experienced employees from administration or career changers, graduates also have the opportunity to enter the professional world with us. Whether administrative specialist, lawyer, economist, engineer, computer scientist, or specialist and management staff – your skills are needed here!

Of course, we also provide training

  • as an administrative specialist (focus on federal administration) and
  • as an IT specialist (focus on system integration)!

Please apply for a specific job posting whenever possible.

Equal opportunities are of great importance at BALM. Therefore, we particularly welcome applications from women, people with disabilities, and applicants of all nationalities and genders.

What we offer:

  • Secure payment: Salaries are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) as well as the Federal Salary Act (BBesG). This way, a transparent, fair, and above all gender-neutral salary is always ensured.
  • Flexible working hours (flexitime) and individual part-time models
  • Pension scheme (VBL)
  • Asset-building benefits
  • Home office and mobile working
  • Environmentally and climate-conscious employer: For our Cologne headquarters, we have been certified as a bicycle-friendly employer to EU standards at the “Gold” level since November 2022
  • Active promotion of the health of our employees through the provision of sports and health measures (e.g., use of offers from the AWO family service)
  • Nationwide locations with very good transport connections: With our headquarters in the heart of Cologne and eleven other locations, we offer an attractive working environment. The office buildings are centrally located and well accessible by public transport.
  • Job ticket (location-dependent) with a subsidy of up to 25 EUR per month
  • Social welfare
  • Annual special payment
  • Large training and further education offerings
  • Work-life balance
  • BALM promotes the compatibility of family, caregiving, and work and is accordingly certified. Through our flexible working model, teleworking, mobile working (home office), part-time models, a working time account, and overtime compensation, we offer individual and flexible working models.
  • Parent-child rooms (at the headquarters in Cologne and at other locations)
  • Diversity: We are committed to diversity in our teams. The various skills and experiences of each individual help us to master daily challenges together.

We look forward to getting to know you better!
